Paying Attention

Herein be random ruminations on politics, history, ideas, spirituality, religion, education, media, life, relationships, culture... and Boston sports when I really want to vent.

"If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention." (ubiquitous)

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never has and never will." (Frederick Douglass)

"I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." (Susan B. Anthony)

"Clearly the trick in life is to die young as late as possible." (William Sloane Coffin)

FOX MOX THE POOR

So FOX’s point is what? That poor people shouldn’t have refrigerators? Their food should rot because they’re quote-unquote poor?

FOX News casts itself as a defender of Christianity against the “secular left” (“War on Christmas” anyone?), but FOX’s Christianity is cultural not biblical, and certainly not spiritual. There are literally hundreds of verses to choose from in defending the dignity of the poor from sneering rich “Christians” like FOX, but this one seems best…

“Those who mock the poor insult their Maker.” (Proverbs 17:5)
